The City of 1,000 Easels project turned the entire downtown of Asheville, NC into an open air studio and walking tour.
Hundreds of artists were stationed in prime areas in parks and along sidewalks, setting up their tools, and sharing their creative process with the community. City of 1,000 Easels supported The Asheville Area Arts Council’s efforts to promote the role of arts in the community by showcasing the magnitude of the visual arts sector.
Maps were made available at local businesses and from wandering volunteers, detailing which artists were participating and how to find them. Enthusiasts and passers-by alike explored the downtown area to see the massive display of creativity and local shops experienced a surge in business.
Each time this event took place, it was a supremely special day in Asheville.
